Love it!

Ever since going to Steamboat 3 years ago, I have made it an annual trip. I would say it is an ideal location for beginner and intermediate skiers/riders, as there are tons of blue trails and one is sure to find something to suit their ability level. I can't speak to the quality/steepness of the black runs as I only ski the easiest blacks.
Steamboat is known for it's powder and tree skiing and there are places that even lower level skiers can enjoy some easier trees.

The base area is not flashy, modern and slick, so if that sort of thing is important to you, you may not enjoy Steamboat as much. However, Steamboat's lack of pretentiousness is one of my favorite things about it. That and the lack of crowds and minimal lift lines.

I have had a good experience with the ski school as well and was lucky to find an instructor I liked my first trip there and we've been able to ski together for each subsequent trip.

I find the free bus service to get around town very convenient and for a small town, they have a nice wide range of restaurants.

Amazing

I would recommend this mountain to anyone who loves powder, adventure, short lines, and park. If you go out west, Steamboat should be at the top of your list

Really Good Mountain

I go to this mountain every year and love it each time that I go. I love the great powder that they have and the lift lines are minimal once you get past one of the base lifts. Unbelievable skiing for people of all ages. I have been able to challenge myself each time I have gone. I would highly recommend this resort, even though many people say that it lacks steeps and bowls. Whenever I turn in my skis I immediately look forward to the next year.

My Favorite Stuff

Runs: Rolex(Bumpy w/ steeps), West Side(steep groomer), High Noon(cruiser w/ great powder, Longhorn(long pretty steep), Tomahawk(long blue run), Rough rider(fun for kids, has trees and jumps), Storm Peak(Simply the best), See Me(Easy black)Rainbow(great blue cruiser

Condo: The Bear Claw Condominiums: Nice and roomy, right on the side of the slopes with easy ski in ski out access(I mean really easy) with direct route on the bunny slope to either the gondola or christie lift.

Restaurants: Tugboat: great atmosphere, food is great(get the ribs)Tap House: Not very well known, easy to get into with "stadium" food

DO NOT: Stay at the Storm Meadows condos: they are not well maintained and they have "hike in, hike out" access

Eat at the Thunderhead restaurant for on mountain. Go to the Rendezvous Saddle a little higher up for better food and (slightly) less crowds

A few other things: Rent a car, don't depend on the buses for taking you places. I had to wait an hour holding my groceries at the store.

Go tubing at night for a good family time
